The Eastern Sierras are the home to several types of trout: Brook, Brown, Cut-Throat, Golden and Rainbow. These fish can be found in the hundreds of lakes and streams in the Mono and Inyo counties. Some areas within just a short drive are: West Walker River - this river is located just a few hundred feet from Meadowcliff. Easy public access is just a short 1/2 mile away. Looking for more holes that trout love start just about 3 miles away. This river receives about 60,000+ rainbow plants each year. Little Walker River - this river is for those that like to hike and hunt for fish. Both native and plants can be found here, just about 16 miles away. Kirman (Karmen) Lake - perfect for the fly-fisherman and float tuber. Large native fish is a short 16 mile drive from Meadowcliff. Then a short 3 mile hike through some very beautiful scenery. Well worth the hike! A must for those that want big native fish. Bridgeport Reservoir - Just a short 25 minutes south of Meadowcliff. This reservoir is used by boaters but can also be fished from shore. Boat ramps and boat rentals are available at the lake. The lake is planted with 10's of thousands of rainbows and browns. Best fishing is the Spring time and Fall seasons. East Walker River - This is very well known for it's trophy sized fish. A must on any fisherman's schedule. Well known for it's large rainbows and browns. It can be fished from Bridgeport Reservoir to the Nevada State line with a California Fishing license. For those that want lots of native browns, get a Nevada License and continue fishing down stream from the Nevada State line. Twin Lakes - Located just south of Bridgeport, these high mountain lakes produce some very large browns either from boats or from shore. Boat ramps and rental available.
